Carl Polke
Award winning Melbourne based composer/sound designer and musician/performer Carl Polke has has been active within the professional theatre, circus, and physical theatre industries for many years, working with many of Australias leading companies at both national and international level.
During this time he has composed and produced music and sound designs for all manner of theatrical adventures, from small independent companies to many of Australia’s premier international touring productions, as well as music for film, advertising and corporate events.
His score for "Flying Blind" (Legs on the Wall/Axis Theatre & Arts Club Theatre) won the Canadian Jessie Award for "Outstanding Sound Design or Original Composition: Large Theatre" and his sound design for the large scale physical theatre work ”On the Case” (Legs on the Wall) earned a Helpmann Award Nomination for "Best Original Score".
Other companies Carl has worked with include Phunktional, NICA, Circus Oz, Legs on the Wall, The Flying Fruitfly Circus, Circus Monoxide, Griffin Theatre, ABC Radio National, Urban Theatre Projects, ATYP, and many more festival and theatre organisations.
Carl is adept in all manner of composition, producing and editing of electronic and traditional sounds and musics, and is his extensive and wildly varied experience has helped develop and hone an ability to create unique, interesting and often surprising musical scores and sound designs, and to quickly grasp and interpret theatrical intent. He has a comprehensively equipped production facility capable of producing, recording and editing audio to a professional standard.
